Good Read

I attended Rev. Debbie Blue's reading from her new book, From Stone to Living Word.  Debbie is a pastor from our church and a graduate of Yale.  She's absolutely brilliant and still wonderfully approachable.  After the reading was finished, the audience was asked for questions.  I raised my hand and told the group of my new mom status and how Lia has made me question everything.  I asked Debbie how her kids had influenced her work.  She answered much more eloquently than I can summarize here, but I'll try.

She told me that her "kids are everything".  And, while you can't really compare your relationship with your kids to your relationship with God, one reminds her of the other.  You love your kids and you fight with your kids and frankly, sometimes you don't like them very much.  But, they are still everything.  And, that's sort of what it's like with God.  Faith is about a relationship, and relationships are dynamic and wild.

Her words struck me to the core.  I love House of Mercy.  It makes me question everything.  Just like my daughter.
